We recommend processing the request to extend your stay in Canada at least 90 days before its expiration. Although you could do it a little after this time, our advice is that you consider very well the times that this type of process takes, because problems may result in the process and your stay is over. 

Getting an extension of your stay in Canada has steps that are very simple, but you must complete them the following order:

• Make the deposit and delivery of the application receipt, before the expiration date of your current visa.
• The processing center will receive your request and make sure that the payment and required information is included in the request.
• A processing center service agent evaluates and determines whether or not the applicant is eligible to renew their stay, and decides whether or not the extension will be granted. If the expiration of the current period of stay is met and you still have not received a response from the process, nothing will happen until you receive the decision. This is known in Canada as the implicit state.
